Advertorial, Bad Journalism or What?

LAST SUNDAY'S 60 Minutes interview with Justice Clarence Thomas has caused a stir. Critics are accusing the show of going soft on the conservative judge who's saucy confirmation hearings included allegations of sexual advances on female subordinates.

The most famous of accusers was Anita Hill, who slammed Thomas in a New York Times op/ed this week.

Whomever you believe is irrelevant. The bulk of the 60 Minutes interview barely touched upon those hearings.

Justice Thomas is, by the way, currently pushing a new book.

Was this just a giant sales pitch? Was this lazy journalism?

I can understand why critics claim that they went too soft. However, it was an incident that happened over a decade ago. Both sides have spoken and everyone knows the gist of the events. Anita Hill has enough credibility not to need for Thomas to be slammed anymore. I think he's showed his true colors and how ignorant he is just by the irrelevant, slanderous statements he has made against her and tries to convince the public of.

Are CBS and Rupert Murdoch friends? I'm asking because if Rupert Murdoch owns Harper Collins, and Harper Collins owns "My Grandfather's Son," I wonder what CBS would get out of promoting this new book?

The parts of the interview I saw definitely made the book seem like it had some interesting material in it. I would have to see how 60 Minutes covered the more negative aspects of Thomas' reputation before I came right out and said the whole thing was a giant salespitch, though.

There was something a little crafty about the way 60 Minutes drew attention to the dramatic parts of Thomas' early life and how they were colored by history. (Pun not intended.)

And the close-ups of his face during interviews made him appear passionate and alive.

They did, however, bring attention to the fact that Clarence does not adamantly protest the negative effects of Wal-Mart on the United States economy. Apparently it is the choice parking location of his 40-foot motor home. Necessary details.

Also: When he was asked about Bill and Hillary Clinton, why did he talk about before the time before "they" were president?

men are so disgusting. They think that they are better than women and that even though we have achieved the same in the professional world, they can push us around and treat us like sexual objects. If my boss or coworker ever tried something like that, they would recieve a painful reminder delivered by some anonymous chick in a ski mask. Anita, you disapoint me.
