Leaving the Gun at Home Avoids Lots of Problems

IT SEEMS SO SIMPLE.

A broadcast journalist was arrested outside a Miami high school after refusing to leave a scene. The reporter argued that he had the right to be there. The police disagreed.

When they searched the reporter, police found a loaded .38 revolver. The reporter, however, has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Should the reporter have been arrested? Did he have the right to carry the gun? Did he do anything wrong?

NOTE: The video above has commercials at the beginning and end, so don't just turn off the clip. Give it a few seconds.

How ironic is that!

He is doing a story on school violence and he is walking around with a gun on school grounds. My my.

Outside of that rather interesting point, I don't see why he was arrested. When I saw the title, I thought he pulled it out on the students or even the police. That cop over reacted. No donut break? Runaway suspect? Quota of arrests to meet? Maybe.

He had a permit, I didn't even see where the gun was. He had his right to have it, I don't agree with it being around school children, though I really don't see where he was in the wrong. He shouldn't have been arrested, and if there was a real reason why the police officer was so stirred up about him having a gun at that particular school, it should have be explained to him instead of just arresting him when he resisted moving.

Why doesn't it surprise me that we have to watch the commercials before we get to see the online video? That itself relates to class discussion.

I think it is absurd that they arrested him. He wasn't a danger, he wasn't trespassing, and he was simply doing his job. Him being at that school to cover an event is no different than that cop being there to control an event. And I'm sure the cop had a concealed weapon also. Therefore, the arrest is complete hypocrisy against the journalist, and they had no right to arrest or hassle him.

Just because Dunkin Donuts ran out of apple fritters is no reason to take your aggression out on some poor reporter (with a licensed weapon) who refused to cross the street.

The reporter was being an ass. He deserved to be arrested. Had he just gone across the street and filmed from there, there would have been no conflict. Plus it would have pissed the cop off even more.

The reporter definitely had the right to carry the gun because of his permit. But I don't think he needed to carry it at that specific time and in that specific location. Not to say that schools don't have violent acts occuring in them from time to time, but did he honestly think that one of the students were going to endanger his life because of death threats from restaraunts he gave bad reviews to? I don't see why he was arrested but maybe he should have complied with the officers request to leave the premises and he could have avoided all of this.

He shouldn't have had the gun, licenced or not on school property, but the cops wouldnt have known he had the gun without arresting him for "trespassing" on public property. (didn't know you could do that)

Having a carry permit doesn't allow you to carry a gun anywhere you want. I have a carry permit, but I can not carry on Temple property. Another point would be his employer. Does his news station know he carries a weapon? Who is liable if he uses his weapon at work? What if he accidently shoots someone? Can the station be sued? Bet the station did not know. Their lawyers would freak out.

i love how the tv reporter or anchor call the story emotional..i think the video was kinda funny..

the bottom line is that u dont bring guns on school property...how do u go to a school to do a report about school violence carring a gun...somethings wrong with that picture..should he have been arrested...maybe...are civilian arrested everyday for not doing what the police say...if they say kindly set across the street do it and stop actin like a tuff guy..if he was that worried about his safty maybe he should report from the news van!

That's complete B.S. I think that he should have every right to carry his gun with him if he has a permit. He didn't shoot anyone and he didn't even threaten an innocent victim..These police men need to open their eyes to the real issues and stop wasting their time on stupid situations like this.
