TV Controls Baseball

IF YOU ARE upset that the Phillies will be playing in the playoffs today for the first time in 14 years and you are stuck in school, blame TBS.

The power to schedule the playoffs went to the broadcaster, who made decisions based upon market size and potential audience rather than, well, logic.

Says Phil Sheridan of the Inquirer
: "Television pays exorbitant sums to show these games, so television calls the shots."

The games today and Thursday begin at 3 the afternoon (Yo Ann Weaver Hart, how about an emergency holiday!). Saturday and Sunday (if necessary) will start at 9:37 and 10:07 in the evening respectively. Which means they'll end around 2 am Sunday morning.

Thanks TV!

Unless you were planning on going, I guess TIVO could work. If you don't have TIVO, a VCR+blank tape could help. Because no one is going to skip class or anything to watch the game RIGHT???

yeah, I don't watch sports often.

Seems kinda crappy, especially with the two supposed front runners for MVP playing against each other. I'm not a real baseball fan, it's way too long, but it seems like TBS could have thought a bit beforehand because Phillies were always in the running for a playoff spot (I think).

I am not a real big baseball fan either, but I think they should realize that no one is going to be able to watch their station/network at the times they want.

Try being a Women's World Cup fan--tap-off for those games have been at 4:55 a.m.

Whoops, I forgot to mention Women's World Cup SOCCER fan. Most people probably don't even know that the women even have a World Cup, let alone that it has been going on for a while now..
