MAYOR JOHN STREET will teach two classes in the political science department in the spring semester. After 8 years as mayor and a lifetime in Philly politics, he is more than qualified, right?
TU president Ann Weaver Hart said, "We are delighted that Mayor Street has offered to share his deep experience and acknowledged expertise in urban politics and policy with our students."
Would you sign up for one of his courses?
This really isn't a journalism issue at all, but I'm curious of your thoughts.
The citizens of Philadelphia have had a love/ hate relationship with Mayor Street, the guy who turned a federal investigation into political gold, for nearly three decades.

I've already signed up for it.
For real?

No. It'd be too weird. His teaching (and grading) would be swayed by his political beliefs and his attempts to justify any mistake he ever made in office. How can you present a neutral, encompassing view on a world you were a part of? Students would want to pick him apart. It wouldn't accomplish much. It's like how singers become bad actors. No no no.
Yeah I'm a political science major so I'm hoping I can take it someday. I mean no matter what the feelings are with his administration no one can argue he is an expert in his subject.
I can't wait for his class. As a City employee I would love to ask him about;
Who to blame for;
1)at least a murder a day
2)several young people die because there are no squads(ambulances) avalable
Then I would ask him for advice on;
3)how can I get away with not paying my utility bills.
4)get currupt friends to ahh help me out, wink, wink. Then fall on their swords and go to jail as I collect my DROP money and my pension.
5)Gadgets!!!!
I would propably get thrown out of his class on the very first day, at least I could drop the class and get most of my money back. It would be worth it!!!

Many students at Temple University know John Street. He has real life experience and he would be able to tell us about the real world. I think that it would be an interesting experience to have our major as our professor.
Oh because he's done so much for philly education already... (joke).
I highly dislike John Street and have booed him whenever he makes an appearance at a Phillies game,but as soon as I heard he was teaching a class I signed up for it. How many people can say that the mayor taught them? I can't wait.
What courses will he be teaching. I want to take one.
They have this thing called the Internet now. You can go on there and download a course list for next semester. It's amazing.
Last time I checked (last Tuesday), there were several open seats in Street's classes.
