CBS3 ANCHOR Larry Mendte will be in class on Tuesday. He'll talk about anything and everything, so please arrive with questions in mind.
Above is a package he directed. Below is another goofy clip from back in the day (sorry ... it's all I could find on YouTube!).

I really enjoyed Larry's visit. He's intellegent and has been through many experiences until he found his niche in broadcasting. His loyalty to broadcasting didn't surprise me because he has been doing it for so long.
One thing that did shock me was when he admitted that part of the reason why his first marriage fell apart was because of his hectic schedule. He said that in most cases a career in broadcasting can put a strain on a relationship which I thought was honest advice.
The whole interview thing seemed kinda strange but he sure knew how to seize the moment. Larry was a pro, he seemed driven and passionate about his profession. He was by far the best guest speaker.
Larry was by far my favorite speaker of the semester. Being a broadcast journalism major, everything he said was great advice. One thing he said that I didnt know was that even if you get offered a great internship at a big station always go for the little station. Im definately going to remember that next year when I go looking for internships!
Just watched the news by the way, I look and sound like a four year old!

I really enjoyed Larry's visit to class today. I loved how he put us in his story on the news this evening. He's awesome!

I'm so glad Larry finally came to visit! Not only did he offer a lot of good advice for starting out in the business, but also allowed us to participate in some real, on-the-job action! It was pretty cool that he thought our class was important enough to make the news!
Everyone seemed to enjoy Larry's talk. I did as well. I thought he had some valuable advice and even had me thinking about interning at a local news station simply for the connections you can make when you impress everyone there.
I was wondering...
You don't think he 'put us on the news' to win us over do you? I mean after he was a no-show? Everyone always wants to be on tv. Definitely a way to keep the crowd happy.
I think he put us on the news because today is election day and he needed to feed the hungry news beast. Really. I don't this was a suck up move.
The focus of the day in PA is the election. He was double-dipping: he visits the class and he turns a package.

I was thrilled that Larry came to class today! I learned a lot from him, just from his talking. But I learned even more from watching him interview us! It was awesome to watch us on the news!

Larry Mendte was pretty chill- he reminded me of Conan O'Brien :) He had a lot of great things to say but I feel maybe he could've went into a few more things in detail- he has a lot of experience behind him and he is really different from past guests we've had- he has that star look to him and celebrity heir to him- the one thing that stuck out for me was when he said that he enjoyed talking to the camera more than people- but i feel as a journalist and reporter, the people are who your main subject and audience that you should have a strong comfort level with people and be able to identify with them- i'm glad he finally made it in to visit with us i guess he really needed a shower that day...
I enjoyed Larry's visit. He seemed to act completely different once the camera was one, which I can't say I'm too suprised. He said he is more comfortable talking to a camera than an actual person which I thought was interesting as well.
I thought it was fun that he interviewed the class, but it wasn't what i expected. He let the kids he interviewed get off too easy. Ok, so who likes McCain, or Clinton or Obama? He just asked "Why ___?" and the answer was "oh, i like them." Come on Larry you let these kids get away easy. Shouldn't the ideas matter, what the canidates stand for? Do we even know what the canidates stand for?
As much as I enjoyed what Larry had to say mattered, I also was suprised by how he "interviewed" the class.
I was just happy he showed up. He seemed like a good enough guy. It was interesting how a lot of things we discuss in class, like government/business control of media he did not see in his experiences. I love the speakers that come to talk to us. I was bummed about the actual report that was aired, I feel like many people said important things in class that weren't aired, but thats how life goes. :)
To echo an earlier sentiment, Larry was by far the most entertaining guest speaker this semester. Sure, John Street and Sam Katz were also interesting, but Larry provided us insight from a completely different viewpoint. I'm glad he finally came.
BTW, I'm only slightly miffed that I didn't get to be a star :P.
can someone put the video on youtube? I tried but couldn't on my mac!
The x ray part was funny. Seriously though, is it safe to mix humor with raw news ? Common sense tells me that it depends on the story. If it's of a serious nature we can't fool around with it. Otherwise its not so bad if we can make ppl laugh once in a blue.
