BELIEVE IT OR NOT, the media are the standard bearers of society when it comes to language. What is said regularly in print, online and over the airwaves becomes commonplace in public.
So what do you think about our World Series champion second baseman who dropped an f-bomb on live television (and live radio)?
Should someone be punished for this and if so, who?

i was watching the ceremony live in my room when i heard this... and i was completely taken aback. my roommate and i just stared at each other yelling "he can't say that?!!!" to be honest- i loved it. it made me love him even more. and yet i still don't think it was appropriate for him to say. during the entire broadcast, the anchors were saying how the parade and ceremony was such a family oriented event and for chase utley to say that seemed a little obnoxious to me. but like i said...i still loved it.
He just won the world series. I probably would've said the same thing, if I was him. I think that because he used "fucking" to add more emphasis to the win, rather than in some derogatory, vulgar way, it's alright. I was watching the news after they won, and Mayor Nutter, to philadelphians, said "you can be joyous, but don't be a jackass"... I feel like these words are part of our culture, and yeah, there's censorship and regulations, but in the grand scheme of things, they don't matter. The reality is that people curse, and to deny that, and censor it, seems kind of stupid.
I was watching this in my parent's house and thank goodness there was a delay between the two different televisions we were watching in on because when he first said it I had a "did he really just say that!?" moment. When I heard it echoed in the other room, I knew then for sure that he did. I then heard my father scream after him, "Hell yes!"
In my opinion, I loved it. I love that he spoke like any person walking the streets of Philly would speak about winning the world series.
I'm glad there was no censor to catch his words, he said what he meant.. and we heard it the way we were suppose to.
I enjoyed it!

Many uses of the word "fuck"
Its not like the kids have never heard it before. I mean yeah its vulgar but I knew what it was by the time I was 5.
I personally don't care, it happens.
I was actually at the parade that day so I wasn't back in time to catch him say that on TV. I heard people talking about it and decided to check it out on youtube since I knew it would be there. I think he deserves to be able to say whatever he wants, he's a world champion now. He, along with everyone else in the city, have been waiting a long time for this moment and it's finally here. He was just expressing his true feelings.
I'm not a baseball fan so I'm not defending him for any reason like that...but a punishment for this would be ridiculous. First of all, he was in a moment of extreme excitement. Secondly, he didn't hurt anybody..he wasn't breaking things or rioting like others. It's a word. Obviously he shouldn't have used it but he's human..no harm done.
A punishment for Chase would be ridiculous. When something is won like the world series, sometimes it's hard to not want to curse and get a little excited. Under the circumstances I think it is okay he got that revved up and said the f-bomb. If kids are already at the parade they saw a lot worse than Utley saying the f-bomb. People were drunk and cursing all day. It was purely celebration and in a case like this, I think there should be no punishment.
He can say whatever he wants, but the media should censor it.
I think that if he would have said it on live television like RIGHT after they actually won the game it would be ok. But honestly, it wasn't needed on the day of the parade. I get it. He's pumped. He IS a "world fucking champion," and that's awesome. And yeah, most people there didn't seem to mind. But still, he IS a public figure. And it's not the media's fault. They can't censor LIVE television/radio. I think he should be scolded and told to watch his language, but I don't think there should be a real punishment.
hahah this is fucking hilarious!!! I'm a METS fan and it's hard for me to like Chase Utley but I think this has made me like him lol.. he said exactly what everyone else was thinking and all the power to him! Gutsy but justified:) haha Chase Utley is an amazing baseball player=)
its hilarious.... he just said one curse word ... if ever other word out his mouth was fuckiin....like i fuckin love you! we fuckin rocked! and we run this fuckin shyt !
then i would be angry
but he's cute he could get away with one curse

When Chase Utley said this, it was probably the best part of the parade. For all the parents out there who have a problem with their kids hearing this, get over it its not like your kids haven't heard it before. If your were so worried bout your kids, then why weren't they in school when this was said?
