Santelli Bails Out. Stewart Tears Him Apart.

CNBC ANALYST RICK SANTELLI, who ranted live on CNBC about the Obama administration considering bailing out private individuals who were in danger of defaulting on their mortgages (see the video below), was supposed to be a guest on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

He canceled. So Stewart went off on CNBC, pointing out shallow and otherwise poor journalism from CNBC. It is a great, critical look at the media.

Jon Stewart made some interesting points on the Daily Show tonight. His conversation with Jim Cramer brings up a lot of questions over the responsibilities of these financial journalists as watchdogs and how their connections with the businessmen that they cover obscures their objectivity.

Well, although I do not consider Jon Stewart a journalist, I do appreciate his "watch dog" ethics. He did use Cramer's words out of context and has apologized for it. I like that Jon Stewart is able to capture an audience who wouldn't ordinarily pay attention to politics, yet the flip side of that is if his demographic soley depends on his show for political news, could be misinformed, because it is entertainment.

I'd have to disagree with the idea that Jon Stewart's audience is "misinformed." Studies have shown that viewers of The Daily Show are actually better informed about current events than those who get their news solely from CNN, MSNBC, or FOX. Check out this survey that came out after Bill O'Reilly claimed that Daily Show viewers were just a bunch of "dopeheads." http://www.onlisareinsradar.com/archives/002186.php

Most Daily Show viewers get their news from other sources, especially the internet, but I would definitely consider Jon Stewart a type of journalist.

Jon Stewart to me is an example of true objectivity. He takes on anyone! And does it in a way that only he can get away with. The people that work there do their research like no other before putting a piece together.

I am so glad that someone is pointing out how ridiculous this biased "journalism" is. Jon Stewart does a great job of showing how truly unfair these people are- particularly Santelli's rant against "loser" American citizens. Ordinary tax payers are victims of the felonious corruption that led to the recession, they should be aware of the bad journalism that encouraged it. Jon Stewart is making these journalists, as well as politicians, accountable for their actions- they should have to answer to us.
