This is great! This is something I would show if I owned a news stations. You can only play so many negative stories before you need to have something light and happy. But honestly, I wish my cat was this cool. This is just too funny.
This would have to be under proximity and human interest because it probably affects the people that live close to this cat since it looks like the cat does steal some very important things from the neighbors. If they didn't know about this cat and why some of their things were disappearing well they know now.
This was just too hilarious! I think it is a perfect way to get from the same news about someone who was shot and killed by a hit-and-run. This would definitely be newsworthy in a lot of ways to those who live in the area where this "klepto cat" lives. I wish there was more stuff like this on the news.
Depending on where/when this aired, I think it can be considered news. While it shouldn't air before stories of more importance, it is still something I think people would be interested in, especially if it aired on a local station. News doesn't always have to be serious, it can be funny as well. This is definitely a very unusual story (one of the newsworthiness criteria).
Is it news? Yes. I mean, anything can be considered news, if it's something you really never knew, I suppose. But is really lacks any importance. I can say it was a cute, funny little story, that I'm sure on a slow night a news station would air, but really has no weight in the journalism world.
It has human interest, which I'm sure attracted many cat lovers and people who live in the suburbs. And there definitely is proximity to the area in which the cat burgles in.
I hope that whenever this aired it was not before anything that really was newsworthy and vital to convey to the public that evening.
I thought the klepto cat was absolutely hilarious. Of course it wouldn't be considered breaking news or anything, but it's still funny nonetheless and would be a good human interest story. I'm sure it would get a lot of attention from many animal lovers, and maybe they might air a special story on animal planet, who knows. It would for sure fit into the "unusual" news criteria.
I really found this story quite entertaining and newsworthy. The fact that this story is unusual and sparks human interest, makes it newsworthy. Now, I am not a cat person, but I do find this clip remarkable in the sense that the cat even thinks to do this pretty much every night.
If you intend to go into journalism as a career, you should be writing, taking pictures, laying out pages, making decisions and informing our community now. Really.
Contact an editor at the Temple News and begin working for them ASAP. Get clips. Get experience. Get paid.
Former CBS3 anchor Larry Mendte visited our class in 2008 and then put us on the news. He polled the class on the day of the Pennsylvania Primary Election. You can see the video by clicking here.

Just getting this assignment at all was a joy as a videojournalist... Here is the original story that I worked on with Reporter Vic Lee:

This absolutely qualifies as news based on it's unusualness. (I've certianly never heard of a cat doing this with anything other than a dead bird!)
This is the type of story that would work perfectly, to lighten up the mood a bit, after an hour of dense, often negative news.
