Does That Review Come With A Pay Raise?

A BOOK ABOUT the state of network news is probably pretty relevant these days.

No longer do we have the big three anchors anymore: Dan Rather, Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw. Instead we have Katie, Brian and Charlie Gibson. Two of those three were previously chipper morning show folks.

The media is allowed to have an attitude now, the country is divided and the Internet is God.

Definitely good stuff for a book. So the Washington Post's media critic, Howard Kurtz, wrote about it.

And the Washington Post gave it a rather glowing review today: Howard Kurtz, I am now certain, has a secret. Either he no longer sleeps, or he has found a way to expand the 24-hour day. How else can one explain his exceptional output?

Wow. That's awfully nice.

Read the review. And listen to the sound clip that is attached to the names of the former big three anchors. This is relevant stuff for what we'll talk about on Thursday.

That review kind of made me want to read the book...maybe I will.

And by the way, I don't know if it's my computer or the link, but the first link (that was supposed to be a sound clip) wouldn't work. A link to some ad or something came up.

The link is to a story, but to make money, the website placed an ad at the beginning of the clip.

It's really annoying. People still haven't learned how to make money using the Internet yet.

The ad runs about 15 seconds and the actual story begins after that. About 1 minute into the piece, it gets good.

Be patient.

We'll there was a stroy in The New York Times last week that online news oulets have not figured out how they can properly advertise or if their advertising is working because their estimates of traffic to their sites are coming up different than estimates done by other sources. As far as the review: it is a bit unethical for a paper to review a book by one of their own.
