You Want To Be Entertained? Go To The Circus.

THE LONGTIME HOST of NewsHour, Jim Lehrer, says that journalism isn't about entertaining people.

"We did 30 minutes comparing naturally grown tomatoes to unnaturally grown tomatoes," Lehrer told an audience in Texas. "Don't ask me why we did it.

He says this in an era when Stephen Colbert is running for president and Brian Williams is hosting Saturday Night Live. And now Rosie O'Donnell is getting a talk show on the cable news network MSNBC.

Haven't we already crossed the line between entertainment and news?

Jim Lehrer is wrong. I don't think that Jim Lehrer is following the elements of journalism. One element of jornalism is "It must strive to make the significant interesting and relevant." I do not see anything wrong with being entertained while watching the news as long as it is all facts.
